Safety & Usage Precautions
Safety First (Required Reading)
At Blu-Sub Mechatronics, safety is paramount. All users of Blu-Sub products are required to read and understand the following safety information prior to installation, operation, or maintenance of any device or system. Failure to follow these guidelines could result in equipment damage, personal injury, or voiding of product warranties.
Important Disclaimer: Intended Use
Blu-Sub components are not designed, tested, or certified for use in human-occupied vehicles, diving systems, life support, or any application where product failure could result in loss of life, bodily harm, or mission-critical failure.
All Blu-Sub products are intended solely for use in unmanned underwater systems, such as remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), autonomous vehicles, sensors, or tethered tools. Do not use Blu-Sub products in any human-rated environment.
Additionally, Blu-Sub products and packaging are not toys and must be kept out of reach of children at all times. Small parts, components, or plastic bags may pose choking, suffocation, or injury hazards. Do not allow children to handle, ingest, or play with any Blu-Sub product or packaging material.
1. General Safety Guidelines
Before operating any Blu-Sub component, you must familiarize yourself with all product-specific instructions and applicable procedures. All safety precautions should be strictly observed. Ensure that the product is properly assembled and in optimal working condition before use.
Please adhere to the following guidelines:
-
Inspect all components before each use for signs of wear, damage, or corrosion. Do not operate damaged, defective, or incomplete equipment.
-
Maintain a clean, dry, and level workspace. Use only compatible tools during installation and disassembly.
-
Do not disassemble, alter, or modify the structural design or electronic configuration of any product. Unauthorized modifications void safety certifications and warranty coverage.
-
Monitor the product continuously during use. Do not leave any system unattended while powered or pressurized.
-
Operate equipment strictly within the specified environmental and temperature ranges. Do not exceed rated pressure or thermal limits under any circumstance.
-
Do not allow children or unauthorized individuals near workspaces or operational systems.
2. Eye Protection and Optical Safety
Certain Blu-Sub products, such as high-intensity subsea lights or laser-based alignment tools, can pose a significant risk to eyesight if not used properly.
To avoid injury, always:
-
Wear appropriate eye protection (e.g., laser safety goggles) when operating high-power lights or laser devices.
-
Avoid direct eye exposure to intense light sources, especially at close range or in confined spaces.
-
Do not operate optical devices with protective housings or covers removed.
-
Never direct beams at reflective surfaces, people, mobile phones, or camera sensors.
-
Monitor the device while powered. Do not leave high-output lighting or laser products unattended.
3. Fire and Thermal Safety
Blu-Sub systems may include batteries, heating elements, or power regulators that can generate significant heat. Additionally, packaging and certain enclosure materials may be combustible under the wrong conditions.
Observe the following precautions:
-
Do not store or operate near flammable or volatile substances such as alcohol, acetone, gasoline, or cleaning solvents.
-
Keep the area around the equipment free of paper, cloth, foam, or other flammable materials.
-
Never stack combustible items around powered equipment or leave systems operating unattended for extended periods.
-
Ensure all devices are configured correctly before activation.
-
Maintain accessible and regularly inspected fire extinguishers in all operational areas.
-
Store packaging and combustible items in cool, dry locations away from ignition sources.
-
Be especially cautious when operating sealed subsea enclosures: heat-generating components (such as regulators or lights) inside an airtight enclosure may cause internal pressure buildup during operation. If heat dissipation is not properly managed, this could result in deformation, seal failure, or explosive rupture.
4. Electrical Safety
Blu-Sub products often include low-voltage or high-current components, connectors, and sealed electronic modules that must be handled with care.
Strictly follow these electrical safety instructions:
-
Verify polarity before connecting to a power supply. Reversed wiring can cause permanent damage.
-
Do not touch or handle exposed circuits, connectors, or terminals while powered.
-
Never remove components or housings while a device is connected to power.
-
Avoid contact with water or conductive tools when working on energized systems, even those in waterproof housings.
-
Ensure all connections are secure and environmentally sealed to prevent moisture ingress and short circuits.
Additional Recommendations
-
Follow all product-specific instructions and applicable Blu-Guide technical articles when installing or integrating Blu-Sub components.
-
When operating equipment underwater, always perform pre-dive pressure checks, ensure watertight integrity of all seals, and use proper strain relief on cables.
-
When working with sealed subsea enclosures, ensure proper venting, thermal management, and pressure safety practices are followed—especially when operating at full compression or with internal electronics that may generate heat.
-
For any custom applications or integration into third-party systems, consult Blu-Sub technical support for compatibility and safety verification.
If you are unsure about any procedure or safety concern, do not proceed.
