What this tool does
Our Subsea Enclosure Builder is designed to eliminate the complexity of designing underwater equipment. Here's what makes it powerful:
- Dynamic depth rating calculation:
Automatically calculates the maximum safe depth based on your weakest component selection. Mix a 1,000m tube with a 30m flange? The system caps your entire build at 30m and shows you exactly why.
- Live pricing and availability:
See real-time pricing, Quick-Ship availability, and lead times for every component as you build. No surprises at checkout.
- Smart compatibility enforcement:
Only compatible parts are shown based on your tube diameter and length. Integrated components (like Polymer Flange & End-Cap) are automatically recognized.
- Clear locking status indicators:
Instantly know if your configuration provides mechanical locking (Aluminum systems) or relies on friction and pressure (Acrylic systems).
- Flexible reconfiguration:
Change any upstream choice and the system intelligently clears downstream selections, preventing incompatible combinations while preserving your valid choices.
- One-click cart integration:
When your build is complete, add every component to your cart with a single click—no hunting across multiple product pages.
How to use the builder
Follow these three simple steps to build your perfect subsea enclosure:
Step 1: Choose Your Tube
Start by selecting your tube material and dimensions:
- Acrylic Tubes:
Perfect for applications requiring optical clarity. Depth ratings from 20-250m depending on size and length. Non-locking by design.
- Aluminum Tubes:
Maximum durability for harsh environments. Depth ratings up to 1,000m with mechanical locking capability. Best for high-vibration and extended deployment applications.
The builder displays real-time specifications including, depth rating, lock status, and current stock levels.
Step 2: Configure Each End
Select the appropriate end configuration based on your tube diameter and application requirements:
- Aluminum Flange + Aluminum End-Cap:
Robust modular sealing system, rated up to 1,000m depth. Ideal for demanding applications requiring maximum customization flexibility.
- Aluminum Flange + Optical Dome (115mm):
Wide-angle imaging capability, rated up to 1,000m. Ideal for underwater cameras and inspection systems.
- Optical Glass Flange & End-Cap (115mm):
Flat glass window design, rated up to 300m. Great for precision optical applications.
- Polymer Flange & End-Cap (115mm):
Lightweight integrated solution, rated up to 30m. Cost-effective for shallow water applications.
The system automatically updates your overall depth rating to match your weakest component and hides incompatible options.
Step 3: Add Interior Fittings and Vent Options
Complete your build with interior organization and pressure management:
- Electronic Tray Sets:
Organize PCBs, batteries, and wiring with diameter-matched tray systems.
- PCB Shelves:
Additional mounting options for electronic components, sized to your tube dimensions.
- Vent & Vacuum Control (Recommended):
- M10 Self-Sealing Vent & Vacuum Plug:
Supports vacuum retention after pump removal—ideal for deep deployments.
- M8 Vent & Vacuum Plug:
Compact solution for temporary vacuum testing and manual venting operations.
- M10 Self-Sealing Vent & Vacuum Plug:
The builder automatically flags required M8/M10 ports so you can plan your end-cap hole patterns accordingly.

Saving & Add-to-Cart Tips
Maximize your success with these important guidelines:
Configuration Management
- No auto-save:
This builder doesn't automatically save unfinished configurations. Complete your build and add to cart before leaving the page.
- Wait for confirmation:
After clicking 'Add All Components to Cart,' wait for the success message before navigating away or refreshing the page.
- Smart reconfiguration:
Changing upstream choices (like tube selection) automatically clears downstream selections to prevent incompatible combinations.
Best Practices
- Plan your build:
Consider your depth requirements and environmental conditions before starting.
- Test compatibility:
Use the builder's real-time feedback to ensure all components work together.
- Review before checkout:
Double-check your configuration summary before adding to cart.
Tips for a Reliable Build
Follow these expert recommendations for optimal results:
Depth Rating Strategy
Remember: Your build is only as strong as its weakest component.
The builder continuously updates your depth rating as you make selections, but understanding this principle helps you make better choices.
Assembly & Design Best Practices
- Lubricate O-rings:
Always use MOLYKOTE® 111 on all O-rings. Never force flanges or end-caps into place.
- Plan penetrator holes early:
Choose pre-configured end-cap patterns or select blank caps for custom drilling. Include required M8/M10 ports if adding vent systems. See our Step-by-Step Guide to Customizing an End Cap for detailed instructions.
- Consider thermal management:
Aluminum tubes conduct heat to seawater better than acrylic—important for higher-power electronics.
- UV resistance considerations:
Aluminum systems offer superior UV resistance for extended outdoor or surface deployment applications.
- Environmental factors:
Vibration, pressure cycles, and temperature changes all affect component selection.
- Future modifications:
Plan for potential upgrades or changes when designing your system.
- Aluminum systems (Locking):
Provide mechanical retention through the flange interface—ideal for high-vibration applications.
- Acrylic systems (Non-Locking):
Rely on flange friction and external water pressure. Vacuum retention via M10 plugs significantly increases holding force. Perfect for applications requiring optical clarity.
How is the depth rating calculated?
The builder uses the minimum rating among all selected components (tube + both ends + sealing-relevant accessories). It updates automatically after every change, so you always know your system's true capabilities.
What happens if I change the tube or an earlier step?
Downstream selections are automatically cleared to prevent incompatible combinations. The system then shows you only the components that work with your new selection. Price, stock, and depth rating recalculate instantly.
Can I customize end-cap hole patterns?
Absolutely. Choose from pre-configured layouts or select Blank for custom drilling. The builder will remind you to include M8/M10 ports if you're adding vent or vacuum systems. See our Step-by-Step Guide to Customizing an End Cap for detailed instructions.
Do I need a vent system?
Vent systems are optional but highly recommended. The M10 plug supports vacuum retention after testing—ideal for deep deployments. The M8 option is perfect for temporary vacuum checks and manual venting.
What's the difference between locking and non-locking systems?
Locking systems (Aluminum) provide mechanical retention through the flange interface. Non-locking systems (Acrylic) rely on friction, external pressure, and optional vacuum retention. Both are reliable—choose based on your application requirements.
How do I know if components are compatible?
The builder automatically filters options based on your selections. Only compatible components are shown, and the system prevents you from creating incompatible combinations. Real-time feedback keeps you informed throughout the process—except for M8 and M10 vent systems, which the builder provides specific notes about creating incompatible combinations.
