The Subsea Enclosure Aluminum Tube is a robust, pressure-rated housing component engineered for demanding underwater applications. Constructed from high-strength aluminum alloy, it offers excellent corrosion resistance and structural integrity, making it ideal for long-term deployments at depths up to 1,000 meters (3,280 feet). Unlike acrylic alternatives, aluminum is impervious to UV degradation, making this tube well-suited for surface-exposed systems or sunlit marine environments.

This tube is designed for seamless integration with Blu-Sub’s aluminum flange and end-cap systems, including the Subsea Aluminum Flange and Subsea Aluminum End-Caps. The flange system uses dual o-rings and mechanical compression to ensure a reliable watertight seal.

It is also compatible with a range of other Blu-Sub end-cap solutions, including the cost-effective Subsea Polymer Flange & End-Cap 115mm, the Subsea Optical Dome End-Cap 115mm, and the Subsea Optical Glass Flange & End-Cap 115mm.

Side-threaded locking ports on the Subsea Aluminum Flange and the Subsea Optical Glass Flange & End-Cap interface directly with the tube, offering optional mechanical retention of the end cap and flange. This is especially beneficial for high-vibration conditions or when deploying vertically in tethered systems, where movement or pressurization cycles could otherwise dislodge unfastened components. The aluminum flange secures to the tube using four set screws that engage with these locking ports.

This enclosure is well-suited for applications such as deep-sea ROVs, long-duration sensor pods, and other subsea systems requiring durable, corrosion-resistant housings. Its compatibility with Blu-Sub’s modular sealing components ensures reliable performance in challenging underwater conditions.

DESCRIPTION

The Subsea Enclosure Aluminum Tube is machined to tight tolerances for seamless integration with Blu-Sub’s modular flange and sealing components. Its rigid cylindrical structure resists deformation under pressure, enabling consistent o-ring compression and long-term watertight performance in subsea environments.

Aluminum's high thermal conductivity makes this enclosure well-suited for systems that generate internal heat. Unlike plastic or acrylic housings, it facilitates passive heat dissipation to the surrounding water, helping protect sensitive electronics and improving overall thermal stability in sealed systems.

When securing the Subsea Aluminum Flange or any other flange/end-cap assembly to the tube, be sure to thoroughly lubricate all flange O-rings using O-Ring Lubricant – MOLYKOTE® 111 Compound. Do not force the flanges into position, as inadequate lubrication can cause damage to the O-rings and/or the flange interface.

In addition to pairing with Blu-Sub’s aluminum sealing system, the tube supports alternative configurations using the Subsea Polymer Flange & End-Cap 115mm, the Subsea Optical Dome End-Cap 115mm, and the Subsea Optical Glass Flange & End-Cap 115mm, offering flexibility for optical sensing, budget-sensitive builds, or specialty payloads.

With no transparent surfaces or light-transmitting properties, this enclosure type is preferred for systems where visual access is unnecessary or where shielding from light, biofouling, or EMI is advantageous.

Blu-Sub offers two compatible solutions for managing pressure equalization, enclosure servicing, and vacuum leak testing. Each option supports different operational needs and levels of sealing performance:

Subsea M10 Self-Sealing Vent & Vacuum Plug
An advanced self-sealing port that allows both vacuum leak testing and retention of negative internal pressure after hose removal. The internal valve and lock cap maintain vacuum post-disconnection, making it ideal for preventing condensation or stabilizing pressure. Includes bulkhead, copper vacuum plug, and lock cap. Rated to 1,000 m / 3,280 ft. Applying negative pressure can also help hold the enclosure closed, improving seal performance during storage or deployment.

Subsea M8 Vent & Vacuum Plug
A compact two-part system for manual venting and temporary vacuum testing. Vacuum must be resealed manually by inserting the plug after test. Best for quick leak checks or venting during servicing. Rated to 1,000 m / 3,280 ft. Brief vacuum pressurization can assist with pulling flanges tight or holding enclosure lids shut prior to fastener installation.

Can it still be used if the O-ring contact surface is scratched?
No. Any damage to the O-ring contact surface may compromise sealing and poses a risk of leakage. The enclosure should not be used if the sealing surface is scratched.

Can custom lengths be requested?
Yes, custom lengths are available upon request for an additional fee. Please note that longer tubes may have lower pressure resistance, and lead times may vary based on the length and order quantity.

Are other diameter sizes available?
Yes, other internal and external diameter configurations are in development. Contact us if you require a specific size for your system.

Are they compatible with Blu-Sub Acrylic Tubes?
Yes, Blu-Sub Subsea Aluminum Enclosure Tubes are designed to be compatible with Blu-Sub Acrylic Tubes and can be interchanged. Minor differences in internal volume or fit may apply due to material differences.

What are the four holes on the side of the tube for?
These holes align with threaded holes on the flange body and are intended for optional mechanical locking using set screws. While not required for operation, they provide added protection against flange separation. Unlike acrylic tubes, aluminum tubes do not rely on vacuum retention and are mechanically lockable by design.
